Checking in...

Checking in at 32 weeks - almost to the 33rd week. This past weekend was my first baby shower. Definitely fun. It made me very excited for the next one with my girlfriends. Then one more is planned with family. I am a little overwhelmed with what to do with everything and where it will possibly be stored but I know that is a good problem to have. It's so wonderful to have supportive people in life at a time when you can definitely appreciate the support.

Last night we had Derek's parents and an uncle visiting town over for dinner. I only mention this because although Derek didn't do the prep things I was hoping for, he did take some time before they came to assemble the stroller and car seat. :) I love it but always get a kick out of his timing of these tasks.

So with 7 to 8 weeks to go and about 6 weeks of work, reality is really setting in. I feel very "hurry up and wait." I can't make many travel plans and the events are great but I just feel big and slow. (Well, I guess I am so that makes sense.) The house needs attention but by the time I get home, I am so tired, I barely get one load of  laundry done and I quit. I love this spring weather though! How amazing is the sun, minimal wind, and temperatures. I feel like I get to enjoy a bit of early summer since my real summer might be more indoors than I had anticipated.

Physically, the baby is making it's presence known. It's not much of a kicker but more of a "springboard off the hips into total body flips and pushes" kind of kid. What a strange sensation. Besides back pain and a wierd muscle strain/cramp tonight, I really haven't had some of the terrible aspects of pregnancy that could happen. I always try to remind myself of this when I start to feel sore, tired, crabby, whiny, etc. I am convinced the baby is "transverse" right now or maybe angled.

I hope to post photos soon. I am just tired (and let's be honest, lazy) so nothing right now!

A few pictures

I finally downloaded a few pictures. Nothing exciting but at least a quick update.

Week 25

Week 26

Week 29 - I don't know what my face is doing here. It looks pained...I will go with tired.

A quick shot with Joni and Aleaha while visiting Aleaha in FL. :)

Mexico in January

I realized that between work and baby prep, I never posted about our trip to Mexico. It was so fantastic to have a week of relaxation. It's also seems like worlds ago - so much has happened since then. But for the sake of interesting, here are a few pictures.
Happy to be on vacation.

The Cigar shop.

Beautiful Tulum

At the ruins of Tulum. I spent a lot of time trying to stay hydrated and eating fruit snacks. This was week 19 and I had just gotten over the pukies a week or two before the trip!

Pregnant on the beach (with a little wind) :)
This guy was all over the place and not afraid of people.
Breakfast outdoors - love it.

Part of the room and a shot out the patio door. It was a great room for the price!  Private, modern, spacious, and right between the beach and the main restaurant. The fridge was re-stocked everyday with free soda, beer, and bottled water.

Week 30

The posts from the emails to Grandmas and Derek are finished and I am caught up! Now for today...

Thank goodness for girlfriends and the email newsletters from American Pregnancy Association, The Bump, Baby Center, and Fit Pregnancy. Just when my freak out radar starts to creep up, I spend time with these people and emails and feel better. My poor husband is always encouraging me to talk to girlfriends since he is not the empathetic type and we both know it. He is right. It helps. So thanks to all my girlfriends and the genius behind those websites! And to all of the other bloggers that keep it honest and interesting.

Today “starts” week 30. The 3 in there causes an emotional reaction. Is it joy along the lines of “I only have 10 weeks of growing left,” or trepidation “This is going to go down in 10 weeks!”? It’s a mixture. Lately, I have been not-excited about my continual growth so the joy of only growing for 10 more weeks is probably stronger than the trepidation.
On a positive note, I do not have gestational diabetes – hallelujah! I do have low iron and am close to anemic but that’s not just during pregnancy so I don’t even care about that one.

My biggest symptoms/complaints right now are:

• I weigh more. (To all current and former preggos, should I continue or does that say enough?)

• Increasingly slowing down when we walk at night. Terribly frustrating.

• Lower back/tailbone/sciatic pain at random times.

• Difficulty sleeping for long periods in a comfortable position. Of course this results in some tired days. It's like I have re-entered the first trimester fog some days.

• Occasional hand numbness (possibly from those crazy sleeping positions)

• Shortness of breath and general incapability of keeping up with old activities

• Emotional ups and downs.

• Clothing. The constant battle to feel attractive, cover all that needs covering, and not break the bank doing it.

I know that this all comes with the territory but it’s amazing how active you find you usually are when you simply can’t be. Also, the emotional ups and downs are frustrating because it’s new territory. I feel like I have been a fairly even keel person most of my life and losing control of that is a little strange and unnerving.

Also, I feel a bit guilty because I drink caffeine yet. I try not to OD and drink it all day like I used to but I do have a cup or two of coffee. I am thinking it’s a part of my baby at this point but I still feel a little twinge of guilt every time I get a cup.

So that’s my confessional for the beginning of week 30. Pictures to be posted soon.

Month 7

Today was the month 7 checkup. We now will have appointments every 2 weeks until the 36th (?) week when it will be every week. The Dr. recommended that Derek begin to attend as many as possible, so based on his schedule, we will hopefully be having “family appointments” a few times before birth.

I also signed us up for the “Baby Prep” classes. This will include a 4 week traditional baby prep class, 1 breastfeeding class, 1 car seat safety session, and 1 newborn care class. We start April 19 and will be done by May 20 – not too bad for all of those evenings of class.

I had a standard gestational diabetes test today which consisted of drinking orange sugar juice, hanging out for an hour, and getting a blood draw. I must compliment my lab tech because I hate all things needles and she had the smoothest and quickest blood draw to date. She said they will call today and that she was instructed to test iron levels as well. So the call will be with the results of my blood sugar and iron levels. Praying they are both in check.

The appointment with Dr. P was good. My BP was 127/74 which was probably my best ever. Weight is always higher than I want but he said it looked fine. It’s great to get outdoors walking and I recently bought a Pregnancy Yoga dvd that I have been hoping for throughout the past 7 months! Very excited about that. He said to walk even if I feel slow (and Derek will vouch for the fact that I do feel slow) but remember to rest and know you won’t get as much accomplished.

Heart rate today for baby was 134. Yesterday, baby was moving and moving almost nonstop. As I write, he/she has started to move again after a pretty quiet morning. I have some tailbone and sciatic pain which the Dr. said is just going to be a fact of life. It definitely plays a role in my “slowness.” He suggested one stretch/exercise that may help but only if it succeeds in shifting baby’s position. We determined that besides morning sickness, I have had a pretty smooth time of it so if I can get through the back pain and emotional ups and downs, I will be a pretty lucky/happy girl.

This weekend we purchased and assembled the crib and dresser. Derek did a great job and we love the furniture. The rocking chair from the living room “fits.” It’s a bit large but comfortable and I wanted a chair in there so it stays. I also bought a relaxation cd which is perfect for quiet time. I have to admit, it’s a pretty comfy space already. We just need to add a few more special touches but it feels great to have the big pieces in.

Month 6

I went today equipped with questions and while I waited, doodled pictures. I know I was the first patient so I am not sure what the wait was for… It was actually relaxing so I won’t complain.

Dr. says my blood pressure is good and I have gained about 10 lb. The ultrasound showed the baby in breech position right now but that could and probably will change. The ultrasound also confirmed our due date of June 18 and the baby is currently in the 50th percentile. If this continues, we are looking at 7-8 lb. baby. That sounds fine to me. Heartbeat is 143 which I think is pretty consistent with last month. I haven’t looked back. According to the wives tale of gender guessing, this is pretty much right on the line, leaning towards boy. He measured my belly with the tape measurer but didn’t say anything (I didn’t ask) so guessing the measurements are on target.

Dr. says we should pick a pediatrician, think about get a vaporizer, and that if I have any weird questions I should contact him and he will take a look. Next appointment is March 30 and I will take a standard Gestational Diabetes test with the orange drink. Then in mid-April we start going every two weeks, mid-May every week until baby comes. We also need to schedule classes soon and they gave me the PRE-REGISTRATION form for the hospital – already!

Sleep is only comfortable on my side hugging a pillow/blanket. As I was trying to wake up this morning, I laid a little more on my tummy than side. When I rolled back, the baby kicked ferociously!  The little person is definitely getting stronger. Definitely getting excited and ready to focus on planning for being away from work and what those first weeks will look like at home.

Month 5

The next few posts are re-caps of my monthly Dr. appointments that I have been sending to the soon to be Grandmas and Derek. It's the easiest way to catch up the blog. Enjoy.

Depending on your point of view, I am in the 20th or 21st week. It seems that most websites and pregnant ladies look ahead so that makes it the 21st week. Either way, it’s the half way point. If baby is enjoying my snacks this week (as the websites say), it will love peanut butter, cinnamon, raspberry jam, bananas, apples, granola bars, and fruit snacks with vitamin c. I think I need more vegetables!

The check up on Tuesday was good. My blood pressure was in the 140’s when I first arrived but when I left an hour later, it had drop to the 120’s . Dr. said things look good and seems happy with everything that is going on with the pregnancy. He said my uterus is right at my belly button and the baby is moving like it should at this point “growth is right on.”

The heart rate was 134; consistently dropping since my first appointment but in the healthy range. My weight gain is good at 7-10 lbs. He said I should look forward to more rapid weight gain in the coming months. I prefer the slow gain so hope “rapid” doesn’t indicate a big boom. A nurse scheduled our ultrasound for this Friday morning! So pictures will be available soon. We aren’t planning to find out the gender but it will be good to see the baby on the screen and make sure the measurements are looking good.
