I am not sure what came over me last night but I was entirely exhausted. Well, I do know, it’s been a crazy week and all I ate yesterday was graham crackers and a yogurt. I literally dragged myself through Pilates after work and then went to bed at 6:30. Derek tried to wake me to talk when he got home but there was no way. I was so mad at him for disturbing my sleep because he was looking for supper. I slept until 7 this morning.
I wish I could say that put me in a good mood today but really, it didn’t. I have to get too much done for my sisters bachelorette party, for finals next week, for work, for our house and family. I am just overwhelmed and that makes me crabby. So I thought, what will give me some energy and help with the mood – a delicious pumpkin spice latte. I don’t like having the 4 pumps of sweetener, its too sweet, so I always ask for less flavoring. Unfortunately, the barista this morning must have been new because it tastes terrible. It’s not very warm and I don’t know if she put any flavoring in. Do I deserve this for thinking a coffee could change my attitude? Probably. Would it just have helped a little bit to have a great latte? Probably. Do I need to stop griping and get some work done? Probably.
So that’s me today. I am hoping for a quick Friday, a fun football game, and a very productive weekend. I hope to do real grocery shopping, cook normal meals, eat normal foods, work out, clean the entire house, write finals papers, put together presentations, spend quality time with my husband, and possible have a few minutes to myself. Is that too much to ask? Probably.

Here we go again...
What a great start to a long weekend. This weekend is our biggest event at work combining parent's weekend, reunions, admissions open house, and our Arts on the Green festival and Theatre Physics show. It is a big busy full weekend and makes us crazy. But today was a fantastic start. We ran around town and around campus all day prepping things for tomorrow, decorating, planning, and answering lot's of phone calls.I also had a fantastic lunch date with two of my favorite girls Angie and Christy. Thanks ladies! It was fun to catch up and see little Kate.
For the third year in a row, the alumni board has met at Charley's for a kick off dinner together. It's a great time for a drink and good meal without the usual meeting and work atmosphere. Across the restaurant, another group from Bethany was having a party for the sports hall of fame members. Charley's is owned and operated by an alum of Bethany which makes our night all the more special.
The downer for the weekend is I still have a ton of homework (some due in two hours - I am totally procrastinating) and Derek is in IA for Hawkeye football. Sad. But I did get a haircut that I am having lot's of fun with. We'll see what I think when I have to do it tomorrow!
So tomorrow I am heading to school around 8:30 a.m. and will start to get ready for the day. The 5k starts at 9 a.m. and things just go crazy from there. We end with a group at the Tav at 9 p.m. so it will definitley be a long day. Hopefully my crazy looking lip will be healed by then. The fever blister/cold sore/punched in the mouth look is getting old!

Football Sandwich
It was a weekend of football games. We started Friday night at my brother's game in New Ulm. Since he is a sophomore, he doesn't get to play a lot but is on special teams so he at least plays regularly. He is pretty athletic and smart about the game but still a little small. It's exciting to watch him grow up and I am sure he will bulk up in the next year.
Following the game, we went out for supper at the Tav and thought we were headed downtown to Hairball at The Above Ground. We only wanted to stay out for an hour and the cover charge was $10/person so we decided to skip. Instead, we rented Rambo (really) and set up blankets in the living room for a movie night. It was really nice to cuddle at home.
Saturday we went north to a family reunion and shower for my sister. My uncle and aunt has an acre of land with a couple of gardens and lot's of room for play. It's a beautiful area. We don't see this side of the family much so it was good to catch up. And of course, the boys played football on the lawn.
Sunday after church, we picked up the house and had another couple over for football Sunday. Both of us girls are in school right now so we did homework in between games. It was such a gorgeous day that we got a few lawn games in. I realized our yard is pretty ideal for croquet and ladder golf.
Tonight, we caught the second half of Jason's JV game. He did really well but they lost. Afterward, Jason had Choraliers and Mom had to wait in New Ulm with nothing to do because Dad had meetings. Derek asked her to join us for dinner and she quickly said yes. We probably would have headed home but it was good to spend time with mom and help her kill time. Right now, we are finishing the end of Monday night football - hate to be the spoiler but Derek's fantasy team isn't going to win. It was a good day but I always wish I had more homework done. Gonna have to get up early tomorrow to do my case study. By the time we got home at 9:30, I just was out of energy to think! It's going to be a busy busy week and weekend so it's off to get some rest! Enough football for one weekend.

Finding what I love
I have been at Leadership Training the past two days with the Greater Mankato Development group. There are about 30 people in my classes and we will meet all day once a month for a year (this month was 2 days to kick it off). I LOVE it. We spent the first day getting to know each other and learning about ourselves. My "strengths" are being Strategic and an Achiever in addition to always wanting to learn more. My leadership "style" is Inspirational which is supposed to possess high amounts of "push to get it done" and "get people to follow you." That was day one.
During day two (today), we were outdoors all day! Did you get outside today? It was amazing. I think we were supposed to be near 80 and it was wonderful to be so free on such a gorgeous day. We spent the day doing the ropes courses at MSU and doing team building excercises. It was so much fun to be able to interact with a great group of people. I really valued that they appreciated and respected my strengths and looked for me to lead many of the challenges we faced.
Those of you who know me well will also be so proud that I did the HIGH ropes courses. I even surprised myself by being excited for them. Basically you climb a pole similar to a power line and walk accross balance beams or movable bridge pieces. I even did the rip-cord swing (and wasn't the loudest screams heard from the group).
The point has been to learn about ourselves and our leadership, to network and meet new people, and to focus on ways to use your strengths and be aware of weaknesses but not dwell there. Once you are living your strengths, you are supposed to experience more fulfillment and contentment in your work.
I think that A) I am being to understand what I am good at and how to apply that, B) am going to make some great friends, and C) am going to be a much more self-aware, confident, and mature leader after this. Love it. Check the local news at 9 and 10 - you might catch a glimpse of what I am trying to describe.
Hope everyone else is doing well. We are at the half way point for my MBA classes so just trying to pound out those big projects before time slips away. This weekend is another shower for my sister and then probably focusing on homework. Hope to see some of you friends again soon as well! Over and out.

Rain, rain, rain...
It's been a sleepy kind of weekend. Poor Derek has worked almost nonstop being inversed on both shifts. He sleep from 7 a.m. to noon and then get's ready for work again. And being the big jerk that I am, I was pouting this morning about not getting any attention. Isn't that horrible?! I apologized for making his life even crazier.
So other than being the meanest wife ever, I spent the rest of the weekend cleaning, shopping, and doing homework. It's actually a really good feeling to keep the house clean. Now, it's just the little things to change and bring our home into the modern age. One room at a time we will get there. This week, my uncle came over and fixed all of the electrical and lighting issues we had been having. A huge step in the right direction.
Went to Jason's football game on Friday night. They struggled but it was fun to spend time with the family and a little time to talk to Jason when we went out for pizza afterward. Came home to the give the kitties medicine. Get this, since Howard had a UTI, I have to shove a pill down his throat and shoot antibotic medicine into his mouth. We don't just fight once a day, it's a twice a day ordeal for 10 days.
Saturday I got lost on the way to Waldorf. Really. Some days, I am such an idiot. I was in Janesville and instead of continuing south, I turned north - for an hour. I got a lot of time to talk to my dad on that one. Finally got there and enjoyed Aleta's bridal shower. That night, I headed up to Southdale because my good friend Becky sent me 40% off at Banana Republic. Nothing like retail therapy to make a girl happy. After a quick stop there, I hit Victoria's Secret for some awesome new items and headed home.
Today I have to work and continue with the homework. I love interacting with the kids but it will be nice to have this phoning stuff done for the fall. Trying to keep us eating healthy and it gets hard when our schedules are all over the place. I leactured Derek to eat the bananas I am packing him. And I didn't take that one back. :)

Asserting Yourself
Marketing Strategy started tonight and it went really well. I missed my classmates, they make me laugh at the most inappropriate times! Plus marketing is my favorite topic. So tomorrow we start Negotiations, one chapter is really titled Asserting Yourself. Haha.
Speaking of this, Angie, here's a hope that your baby decides to be more assertive.

Pain in the Hip
Seriously. I can't decide if it's totally lame or if it's just about getting old but I have a pain in my hip from my teribble running shoes. I tried to buy new ones but they ended up being wide width (which was a little funny when I was clomping along). If you wear size 9W and need good shoes, let me know! So, the question is do I just let the hip rest or do I try to excercise through pain. Watching the Olympics just makes me feel like a wimp so I have been choosing excercise but that might end soon (excercise not Olympics)...
I also can't believe that my classes start in 2 weeks. I am excited to get going because they are interesting topics but the whole commitment of school will probably get old fast. One thing at a time.
Watch for pictures in the next month - a new camera is my next big purchase. Don't tell Derek though, he just doesn't get it. :) I am still trying to figure out what my strategy is, let me know if you have a good idea.
That's all tonight. Kinda boring but without pictures it's just not as fun.
